“Guangdong has one of the best business-friendly environments; they know what foreign investers need. Some big European companies have headquarters in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), which will also help attract more investment,” said Klaus Zenkel, the newly elected Chairman of the South China Board of the EuCham China.

Klaus Zenkel is also general manager of Imedco Technology (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd, a global provider of shielding products for the health care industry.

“Shenzhen is always a city driven by reform. Many health care companies are based in Shenzhen, where there are good infrastructures. From Shenzhen, we can ship products to southeast Asia and Australia very easily,” Zenkel said.

He attributed one of Shenzhen’s advantages in innovation to the diversity of talents, “It is a unique mix of people who can generate this innovation. They come from different parts of China, Europe, or other countries in the world, it is unavoidable to be innovative.”

The chairman added, “because the government has the freedom to decide by themselves and create new opportunities, it made Shenzhen a melting pot for talents.”

From Jan. to Nov. 2020, Shenzhen's high-tech industries achieved an output value of 2.5454 billion yuan, an increase of 3.3% year-on-year. The number of national high-tech enterprises is expected to exceed 18,000, with the International Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applications remaining No.1 in China.

Speaking of the new chairman’s plan for the South China Board, Zenkel said: “We will continue to work together with the local government and follow our “ABC” principles, which is advocacy, business intelligence and community networking,” before adding “In the near future, we need our working groups to have dialogue with the Guangdong provincial government, as well as city governments to help our member companies know more on the GBA, the initiative will be transparent, which can benefit both sides.”
